Paint Correction

A paint correction is a type of procedure in which polishers, buffing pads, and polishing compounds are used to achieve a finish of smoothness on the surface of a car’s paint. If you park your car in the sunlight and are able to see many light scratch marks and spiderweb swirls then your vehicle may require a paint correction.

A paint correction could cost you anywhere from $400-$3000.

The price depends on many factors such as the level of correction you get. The amount of damage on the surface of the paint and whether you decide to get any type of protection with the paint correction or not. Let’s take an in-depth look at everything that goes into the pricing of a paint correction. So you can better understand exactly what you’re paying for when you talk to a paint specialist.

1-Step Paint Correction

This is the entry-level paint correction.

In this process the paint specialists are looking to remove around 40%-70% of all the swirls and scratches throughout the vehicle.

For most vehicles that have been maintained well, this should be enough to achieve results that look great.

This process typically takes 5-8 hours depending on the vehicle size, condition, and type of equipment used.

Price: $400+

2-Step Paint Correction

In this process, your paint specialist will be looking to remove 70%-90% of all swirls and scratches throughout the vehicle.

this is great for those vehicles that require a bit more work or for those looking to have near-perfect results.

There are typically two stages in this level of paint correction.

First is the cutting stage, where all the major imperfections are handled and buffed out.

Then the polishing/finishing stage where the much finer scratches and swirls are taken care of.

This process can take anywhere from 8-12 hours of consistent labor.

As your paint specialist will have to carefully go over every panel to ensure the imperfections are properly taken care of.

Price: $1000+

3-Step Paint Correction

In this process, your paint specialist will be looking to remove 95%-99% of all swirls and scratches throughout the entire vehicle.

This level of paint correction is not as common as the other two because of how much labor is required.

The goal of this level is perfection or as close as possible to perfection without harming the paint.

There are typically three stages in this level which starts with the cutting and then the polishing stage.

After which comes the inspection polishing stage.

Where each panel is inspected one by one to make sure there isn’t a single scratch or swirl that wasn’t fully dealt with to the best of the paint specialist’s ability.

To the untrained eye, most won’t be able to tell the difference between a 3-Step paint correction and a 2-Step Paint Correction.

The 2-Step handles most of all the major/minor imperfections.

However, if you’re looking for that next step and want to ensure that your vehicle is flawless then the 3-Step is a great option.
